Dr. Katie Long completed her undergraduate training at the University of San Francisco where she graduated Cum Laude in Pre-Professional Health majoring in Biology and minoring in Spanish. She graduated with honors from Creighton University School of Medicine before coming home to complete her residency in Pediatrics at the University of California Davis.
Dr. Long had intended to follow a path into Pediatric ICU or Emergency Medicine until she was fortunate to discover Functional Medicine on an elective rotation during her final year of residency. Dr. Long met a family whose 6 year old son with autism developed the ability to communicate after being non-verbal for his lifetime. They accomplished this with the help of a dedicated Functional and Integrative Pediatrician. She listened as the mother interviewed cried, stating “he told me he loved me for the first time.” It was in that moment Dr. Long realized the world needed physicians who not only recognized the possibility of reversing complex chronic disease, but who were also passionate about taking on the journey into lifelong learning required to do so. She decided to become just that- the type of physician she herself would want to see or send her family to.
Dr. Long obtained her certification in Functional Medicine from the Institute of Functional Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic to join her partner in being one of a handful of Pediatricians at that time to complete the training. Dr. Long has also trained in Autonomic Response Testing through Dr. Klinghardt's courses. She is trained in the use of Frequency Specific Microcurrent and incorporates this as a powerful healing modality in her practice. She is forever grateful for her ultimate mentor, Dr. Nicole Shorrock, and for the healing community they have developed together with their beloved patients.
Dr. Long sees both children and adults. She focuses on helping patients achieve optimal health, not a lack of disease, through a lifestyle and nutritional focus while supporting the health of the entire individual-mind, body and soul. She specializes in uncovering and addressing the root causes of complex chronic diseases including neurodevelopmental disorders, psychiatric conditions, autoimmunity, chronic infection and environmental illness. This includes autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, PANDAS, chronic lyme disease, mold illness, autoimmune disease and more.
Dr. Long is the proud mother of very active and entertaining boy-girl twins. Raising them with her husband is her greatest joy. Their family enjoys wakesurfing, wakeboarding, waterskiing, snowboarding and pretty much anything involving water-even of the frozen variety.
