Dr. Nicole Shorrock started her professional journey at UCLA where she received her BS in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. She graduated with honors from medical school at the University of California Davis and specialized in Pediatrics at The Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado. After her pediatric residency, she returned home to El Dorado County to practice general pediatrics and begin her real training as a mother to her 4 children.
Over the first years of practice, she became progressively dissatisfied with her conventional medicine training and pharmaceutical heavy care plans. She has always valued the mother’s intuition and insight, and as a physician who always asks the question "Why", she realized her medical career training did not prepare her with these answers, focusing on suppressing symptoms instead of addressing the root causes of the illness. When her husband was diagnosed with a severe form of multiple sclerosis at the age of 35, she dived into functional medicine training in search of understanding his illness and cure. It was here she discovered a new understanding of the integrative nature of the body and illness and witnessed the powerful healing integrative medicine offered. She knew she had to change her practice of medicine.
Over the past 10 years, she has focused on holistic healing of chronic diseases through the use of somatic/visceral/cranialsacral therapies, homeopathy, herbs, nutrition and energetic medicine. She practices osteopathic cranialsacral and visceral therapy with a hands on listening to her patients bodies. She values and understands the importance of trauma stored as cellular memory and utilizes many tools to support patients in resetting and releasing this pattern. She appreciates the complexity and wisdom of the human body and addresses the multiple layers (physical, emotional, mental, trans-generational and spiritual) ultimately empowering patients to heal themselves.
She believes that all symptoms are the body’s responses designed to support the body in handling a stressor. She encourages her patients to lean in to their symptoms with curiosity. It is with this intentional listening, self awareness and understanding can occur. The discoveries that follow identify the root stressors (toxicity, trauma) and pave the road to recovery.
She knows the healer of the patient is themselves and finds herself in the supportive role -guiding patients to remember and reconnect to their own bodies wisdom and innate self-healing mechanisms.
Dr Shorrock uses autonomic testing to evaluate the body, in addition to standard functional testing. She believes this process allows her to know the intricate pieces of the puzzle and find the personalized supportive supplemental plan needed, especially where lab testing may fall short.
Dr Shorrock specializes in all chronic immune, gut and neurologic conditions, including autism, mold toxin illness and Lyme disease. She was the 3rd pediatrician in the country to become certified in functional medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine and now enjoys caring for both children and adults using her integrative and functional medicine training.
